The adventures of Keys 2007 - 2014 and an Unexpected Key

It’s hard to believe I’ve made over 2000 upcycled art keys; in many ways it feels like the project is just getting started. Most of Keys 2007 - 2014 are made with parts from an antique adding machine.

Key 2007 is made with an old button, bolts, a rod from the adding machine, a sewing machine bit, and washers from the road.

Key 2008 was created by a slip in the photo editing of Key 2007. I like the way it looked and decided to get the photo printed and count it as Key 2008. To me it looks surprisingly reminiscent of Key 1258 (which I recently sold). This key is a reminder to me to focus on the key at hand and appreciate all the “finds” along the way.

Key 2009 is a small key made with a rod and a part from the adding machine, washers from the road, the remains of a Dremel sanding disc, and a wee bit of jewellery.

Key 2010 is made with antique adding machine parts and decorated on the other side with sparkly bits of jewellery.

Key 2011 has metallic colour pigment added into the resin on the other side - at first I wasn’t sure if I liked it but in time the change grew on me. And, of course, it is made with adding machine parts.

Key 2012 is made entirely of adding machine parts (there were a lot of pieces in that well-built machine!) and resin.

Key 2013 is made of adding machine parts, wee bits of jewellery, and part of an iridescent star.

Key 2014 is made of adding machine parts and more metallic colour pigment in resin.
